Tom Wood's HQ is located in Oslo, Norway, with approximately 70 employees across Norway, Japan, Spain, and Denmark.

Following the successful opening of our first Tokyo flagship store in Aoyama in 2023, Tom Wood has continued to grow its presence in Japan, now proudly operating two stores, in Aoyama and at Dover Street Market Ginza. Our Aoyama Flagship Store embodies the essence of Tom Wood: Scandinavian design, refined craftsmanship, and a modern approach to luxury retail.

We are now seeking an Assistant Store Manager to join our Aoyama team, someone who shares our passion for design, exceptional customer experiences, and building strong relationships.

About the role

At Tom Wood the Assistant Store Manager plays a vital role in overseeing the daily operations of the store, working with the Store Manager to ensure teams are focused to deliver excellent customer service, motivating to secure commercial targets and making decisions that control profitability, and acting as a role model with the highest standard of professionalism.

To succeed in this role, you will need to be motivated by sales targets, hold a dedication to providing elevated and memorable experiences in a store setting, with a passion to lead and support teams to success, using warm, encouraging and empathic communication.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional service that builds long-term customer loyalty and promotes future sales opportunities
  • Ensure the Tom Wood service standards are consistently upheld across the team
  • Support, inspire and motivate teams to achieve and exceed individual and store sales goals, using KPIs to drive commercial strategies
  • Lead by example in product and brand knowledge, supporting to educate teams on material choices, care, repairs, and customisation options
  • Drive clienteling initiatives, private appointments, and VIP event invitations
  • Oversee smooth store operations, ensuring compliance with internal policies and health & safety regulations
  • Maintain an impeccable store environment, including Visual Merchandising and back of house
  • Support stock management, replenishment, and stocktakes
  • Suggest and collaborate on promotional activities and in-store events
  • Assist in recruiting, training, and mentoring staff with focus on talent development and retention
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture

We are looking for someone who has

  • Experience in a commercial sales environment, working towards specific commercial goals
  • Experience motivating teams to achieve commercial success
  • Demonstrated ability to use empathy when managing interpersonal relationships
  • Curiosity to listen to diverse perspectives and confidence to make decisions
  • Preferred experience with clientelling and CRM
  • Previous experience with jewellery, luxury fashion or premium fragrance & beauty is a bonus, or high end hospitality
  • Fluent in Japanese and English language is essential

About you

  • Available to work in a store setting, standing for extended periods of time
  • Available to work weekends and holidays as required, with uninterrupted availability in December
