Job Description

Bank Square Books in Mystic, Connecticut, is seeking an Event and Marketing Manager who will be responsible for overseeing our author events program and broader literary community partnerships. Our bookstore has historically hosted hundreds of events every year, both in store and offsite. Bank Square Books collaborates with many nonprofits, schools, churches, libraries, and other venues. We are looking for an organized, personable, and communicative leader who can manage a team of event hosts, organize and promote author events, and collaborate on marketing these events to the public. Responsibilities Include: Representing Bank Square Books at in-store, virtual, and offsite events. Acting as a liaison between venues, authors, publicists, event attendees, and the public. Writing persuasive author event proposals and submitting them to publishers. Evaluating event requests for suitable submissions; determining whether these should be held at our Mystic store or offsite. Politely declining events that do not fit our program. Working closely with publisher representatives and publicists. Speaking in front of audiences in a variety of settings (e.g. introducing authors). Managing our event team; hiring and training event hosts as needed. Scheduling staff coverage for events; communicating all necessary information to the assigned event hosts. Handling / delegating the logistics of event setup, breakdown, and the transportation of books to and from offsite events. Writing press releases for local media and coordinating event-related social media posts on Facebook / Instagram. Working with our web coordinator to promote upcoming events and other related initiatives (e.g. pre-order campaigns). Coordinating with offsite venues to schedule events and finalize logistics, rental fees, ticketing, and other details. Creating a monthly event order list for buyers; working with the returns manager to return unsold books after the event. Maintaining a media list for press releases; liaising with community partners (e.g. The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce, etc.) Invoicing event partners, managing event book inventory, and handling event donations. Tracking event results; using data to assess overall health of the event program (e.g. profits & losses). Pitching, coordinating, and overseeing school author event visits. Handling the submission of event co-op requests to publishers. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods of time. Ideal Candidates will have: The ability to prioritize a large volume of tasks Confidence in public speaking Excellent time management skills and a flexible schedule A love of books and a kinship with readers is a plus! Requirements: Based in Southeastern CT or Southern RI Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to and from offsite events Weekend and evening availability Compensation: Compensation and position (Events Coordinator or Events Manager) awarded commensurate with skills and experience.
