The mission of the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics is to promote biomedical discoveries and translational medicine through excellence in research, education, and community service. The Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at UCI School of Medicine is at the forefront of the new and exciting discoveries being made in modern microbiology and molecular genetics. We are a vibrant community of scientific investigators actively engaged in innovative research, discovery, training and teaching in microbiology and molecular genetics. We provide faculty research, training programs for undergraduate and graduate students and outreach functions as part of the mission of UC Irvine's School of Medicine.


The Shi laboratory is investigating mRNA processing and its roles in stem cells and cancer. We use a combination of biochemical, molecular, and genomic approaches in our research. Additionally, our experimental research is complemented by our strong bioinformatic expertise. This laboratory provides a great working and learning environment.

Your Role on the Team

Under direct supervision, performs procedures in support of ongoing research activities in a laboratory setting. Also responsible for keeping laboratory facilities clean, sanitary, and stocked.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

• Ability to use computer
• Understanding of common laboratory terms
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Knowledge of sterile technique
• Knowledge of biology and molecular genetics
• Experience in a biology research laboratory
• Knowledge of and experience using restriction enzymes
• Experience growing bacterial cultures and obtaining plasmid DNA.
• 1-3 years College level knowledge in microbiology, biochemistry and molecular biology or equivalent experience

Preferred:

• Typing and clerical skills

Special Conditions:

• Desired willingness to work flexible hours with work occasional weekends.
